Some very useful shortcut keys in MS Word

(Note: All these shortcut keys are tested in MS Word 2003 & they work fine. Please excuse us if some of the shortcut keys do not work with a later or older version of MS Word.)

Some of the shortcut keys are used quite often by you and are very familiar, but some may brush up your memory & will help you out if you are too lazy to disturb the mouse.

We start with how to open MS word using key board.

Press the windows key on your keyboard. Using the arrow keys go to RUN option. (Alternatively, you can open the Run dialog box using Windows key + R).

Type WINWORD in the dialog box and a new document of Microsoft Word will open.

There are n numbers of short cut key combinations in Word but discussing all at a time may increase the confusion rate.

The basic shortcut keys are Ctrl + A (Select all in a document), Ctrl + C (Copy selected text), Ctrl + X (Cut selected text), and Ctrl + V (Paste copied or cut Text).

Shortcut keys for Alignment

Ctrl + L         -           Left alignment
Ctrl + R         -           Right alignment
Ctrl + E         -           Centre alignment
Ctrl + J          -           Justified alignment
You need to select the text before using the above key combinations for alignment.

Ctrl + Z will undo the last action where as Ctrl + Y redo the last action.

FONTS

Ctrl + Shift + F combination is used to change the font.
Ctrl + Shift + P combination is used to change the font Size.

Ctrl + Shift + >       will increase the font to the next size in the drop down list.
Ctrl + Shift + <       will decrease the font to the previous size in the drop down list.

Ctrl + ]          will increase font size by one point.
Ctrl + [          will decrease font size by one point.

Line Spacing

Ctrl + 1            Single Spacing between lines
Ctrl + 2           Double Spacing between lines
Ctrl + 5           1.5 Spacing between lines

Interesting combinations:

Shift + Alt + D                        Inserts the current Day
Shift + Alt + T                        Inserts the current Time.

By the way do you know in MS word you can triple click on a word selects that particular line or the entire paragraph if there are more than one line.

As I wrote in the beginning of the post there are many other key combinations for performing different tasks. You may please write to us at blueznu@gmail.com if you want to know more about any other shortcut key combinations.
